Cybersecurity Education Campus Ramps Up in Tampa

Cybersecurity Education Campus Ramps Up in Tampa

November 21, 2017 | With a series of weekly events and the launch of select educational programs, SecureSet has brought its immersive cybersecurity education model to Tampa at its new campus in the heart of Ybor City.

For months, aspiring cybersecurity pros have been attending SecureSet’s weekly meetups — informal educational events designed to educate prospective students about the career path and provide more connective threads for Tampa’s growing cybersecurity community. Over the past several months, SecureSet has become the “home” for the cyber and information security community in Tampa and is also working with multiple not-for-profit and government agencies in the state to begin building a scholarship pool that will help selected prospective students with the cost of attendance.

The first CORE cohort in Tampa will start classes on January 15, 2018.

“Cyber threats are growing exponentially, but there is a lack of qualified talent and innovation in Tampa Bay and nationally,” said Adam Sheffield, director of SecureSet’s Tampa campus. Sheffield is an Army reservist and former academic who helped establish the Florida Center for Cybersecurity. “Meanwhile, we have an untapped pool of IT job transitioners, veterans and others who could be enormously successful in this field, but either think they don’t have what it takes or haven’t been offered an accessible option for cultivating their interest and gauging their potential. We’re changing that.”

SecureSet’s two primary offerings — the HUNT Analyst and CORE Technical programs — offer a practice/theory mix informed by a network of 40+ hiring partners and are designed to create environment-ready professionals in weeks. The first CORE cohort will start classes on January 15, 2018.

“We signed on as the first of SecureSet’s hiring partners in Florida based on both their innovative educational approach and their genuine commitment to providing relevant education programs for future cybersecurity professionals,” said Rolando Torres, COO of Abacode, a Tampa-based Managed Security Service Provider (MSSP).

Job hunters and career switchers alike are invited to explore cybersecurity topics and take part in hands-on exercises at SecureSet’s Learn Cybersecurity meetups in Tampa. Those interested in applying for formal training should contact Kim Rishton-Nitzschke at 800.445.0024 (kim(at)secureset(dot)com) to schedule an interview and a campus tour.
